Legendary Tales browser based MUD

Welcome to the new and improved Legendary Tales Website.

Legendary Tales has now taken the next step forward. After popular demand it is now available as an 100% Web based online multi user role playing game (MUD) trying to preserve as much of the ease of play as the Windows versions. The only requirements is a relatively new Web browser (such as IE 5.5+, Firefox, Mozilla, Opera, Safari 2) and the Flash Player 9 plugin.

Register for a free account, log in and click on the Play Now link to play.

Legendary Tales will continue to provide the Legendary Tales Engine and Editor, two Windows programs for creating and playing state of the art text based fantasy RPGs. 3 Skulls is the first game to be created with the Editor to show its capabilities. This site will continue to support game development with Legendary Tales and provide scripting tutorials.

Enjoy your stay and have a lot of fun!

Eschalon: Book 1
GamesIt's time to take a break from your Legendary Tales Game development and play a really cool RPG for Windows, Linux and Mac from an independent game developer called Basilisk Games.

See these screenshots to get a first impression of the game. If you haven 't spent your Christmas pocket money yet, here 's a really good game that will keep you busy for many long winter nights.

Legendary Tales MySQL migration
NewsLegendary Tales has been migrated to MySQL. That was done localy on my PC but the server version on Linux will certainly have no problems as well and is the next thing on my list. Read more about what this means for the LT-CMS.
Legendary Tales Online Now LIVE
NewsLegendary Tales Online MUD is now LIVE. Log in, hit the Play Now link and enjoy!

Note: If you cannot login simply update your password in your account (Edit Profile). This will automatically create a game account for you.

Since this is still in development there may be long periods that the server might be offline or there may be lag. Anyway, you can still enjoy some nice battles. And don't forget to turn on your speakers. There is some experimental music here and there.

3 Skulls Open Source
3 Skulls Open Source

The project folder of 3 Skulls and all resources (images) is now available as open source. This means you are able to copy the whole project to your projects folder and open it in the Legendary Tales Editor.

This also means that all scripts, areas, npcs, items and other content are available to you to extend or import into your own game projects by using the Package Manager.

I have figured out that it is far easier to extend or expand a game by building on top of it rather than starting entirely from scratch. This will help many new and experienced developers. It is also easier to learn by looking at the code or how things are implemented.

The project is available under the Mozilla Public License 1.1 (MPL 1.1). In brief this license allows you to use any content, even for commercial purposes but any content you add or create must be given back to the community. It also permits the combination of open source with proprietary software or components. I think it is a fair and not too restrictive license.

The project source is available to people who are truly interested in LT or game development in general so they must be registered members on this site. Registration is still free of course.

The commercial 3 Skulls Game will continue to be distributed for a price. The reasons are:

  1. Instead of donating, you can buy 3 Skulls even if you don't want to play it to aid the further development of this game creation website and software. I don't want to put up a donation button without giving something back in return.
  2. 3 Skulls is written entirely in machine language, without scripting so its performace will be much better than 3 Skulls Open Source played from the Engine.
  3. The Open Source project has not been tested extensively, and might still contain errors in scripting. The Commercial 3 Skulls game does not use scripting (although all scripts have been translated to native language from the project) and there is no possibility for any script not to work.
  4. The Open Source project is targeted mainly to game developers. Gamers who only wish to play the game it is recommended to play the Commercial 3 Skulls to avoid problems or scripting errors.

As a suggestion to those who would like to extend 3 Skulls it would be a nice idea to start building the great city of Maelanor. If you have played 3 Skulls you will know what I'm talking about. If you haven't then the first thing you should do is grab the source and "Create Release".

Have a lot of fun and adventure!

note: graphics are copyrighted and do not fall under the same license as the rest of the project. You may not redistribute graphics in commercial projects. You may use them in free projects only.

Fantasy awaits!

So morbid! If you check his last online, it wasn't too long ago. I suppose he just doesn't post.

How to play this game?

Delphinus

Well, a text-based RPG, obviously. It mixes comedy with myth.
